The City of Oxnard

The City of Oxnard has constructed an advanced water purification facility and science center for the purpose of supplementing water supplies through urban irrigation, groundwater injection, and the provision of alternative water supplies to local agriculture.

The City is in the process of securing permits to be the first aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) facility in California that will inject the treated water and later withdraw it from the same well, for potable use. The City is currently serving the River Ridge Golf Course and will soon be providing recycled water to the River Park development, with its schools, parks, and common irrigation areas, through the local homeowners association.

An adjacent paper company also will be receiving the recycled water soon. This plan stems from the GREAT program, which originated several decades ago to help the City of Oxnard become more independent and self-reliant by increasing local water supplies.
