Cambria Community Services District, California, USA – Permitted Groundwater Augmentation (no longer operating)
This facility was built during an exceptional drought emergency. With groundwater levels dropping and seawater intrusion occurring in nearby areas, there was concern that the community could run out of fresh water by the end of the year in 2014.
The Emergency Water Supply was designed, built and started up in less than 12 months, recharging the depleted groundwater aquifer for two years, until the drought emergency had ended.
