Los Angeles Department of Power and Water, California, USA – Exploring direct potable reuse
Los Angeles Department of Power and Water’s recycled water program started in 1979, and over the past 40 years established an award-winning program! Moving forward, the Department’s innovative approach to water reuse means several exciting, new projects are on the horizon.
One of these is planning the Headworks Direct Potable Reuse Demonstration Project. The proposed 1 million gallons (37 million litres) per day direct potable reuse plant will include an advanced water purification facility and learning center. The purified water will be mixed directly into a 48 million gallon (181 million litre) drinking water reservoir before entering the distribution system.
