Long Beach, California, USA – Operating Groundwater Augmentation receiving water from Terminal Island
The Dominguez Gap Seawater Barrier Project is part of a Los Angeles County Department of Public Works project designed to limit the intrusion of seawater into the West Coast groundwater basin. The project began operation in 1971 and is comprised of a pipeline with 41 injection wells and 107 observation wells along the Dominguez channel. Recycled water from the Terminal Island Water Reclamation Plant is injected along the pipeline alignment to prevent seawater from mixing into the drinking water supply. The Dominguez Gap Barrier receives approximately 70% of recycled water. Construction of a new pipeline is in progress to supply the Dominguez Gap Barrier with 100% recycled water.
