Los Angeles Department of Power and Water, California, USA – Exploring different purified recycled water options

Los Angeles Department of Power and Water’s recycled water program started in 1979, and over the past 40 years established an award-winning program! Moving forward, the Department’s innovative approach to water reuse means several exciting, new projects are on the horizon.

LADWP is in the planning phase of Pure Water Los Angeles in collaboration with the LA Bureau of Sanitation and Environment. This program is the new water supply initiative that aims to further diversify the City’s water supply portfolio, in order to mitigate future risks due to climate change. Similar to the Groundwater Replenishment Project, but on a larger scale, Pure Water Los Angeles aims to maximise the supply of advanced purified recycled water from the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant to replenish the city’s groundwater basins via indirect and/or direct potable reuse, by integrating purified recycled water with other supply sources in the City’s system.
